When I’ve started my own seeds before I didn’t have a great deal of luck. One of the main issues of course is the natural predator of all green leafy things…cats. I remember waking up one morning and going to check out the status of all the little seedlings to find about half of them  ripped out and half eaten. It never occurred to me that any of the cats would be interested in any of the seedlings so I had them right out in the open like a kitty smörgåsbord, just ripe for the picking.

I’ve since learned my lesson.

What I really want to get is the Hydrofarm JSV4 4-Foot Jump Start T5 Grow Light System because it’s cool and I think I’d be more successful. I just don’t really have any place to put it that would be out of reach of wandering kitties…but I can dream

I was able to get a few seeds started over the past few days. I used old paper towel rolls for seed pots.

So super easy!  You can also use toilet paper rolls, but well I just can’t do that.

Here are some of the started seeds. Nothing really to see yet. Well except for their location.

Yes, there they sit in our master bathroom, in front of a very sunny window that also happens to be where our tub is located (and cats are not!).  The difference here is that our toilet is not in this room, and therefore my seedlings should be safe from any poop particles. I just don’t need anything that organic.

I’ve also planted some calla lily bulbs and daffodil bulbs. I’ve never planted them inside before so I’m excited to see if they actually grow.

The next thing I want to get is a banana plant…that produces real bananas you can eat.

Isn’t he just adorable?

The Grand Nain variety does well almost everywhere and can be chopped down and brought inside during the winter. I think it would be a really nice plant to even have in the house…cats willing of course 😉 And dammit, I just want to grow my own bananas because I can and it’s still really cute!
